Photo of the Week

The Red Poppy or Field poppy Papaver rhoeas is a widespread annual plant of disturbed ground along with Cornflowers Centurea cyanus. Both were once common on arable land but have seen a decline in the last 60 years as farming practices have intensified. However both plants seed freely and the seed is long-lasting so will germinate if given the opportunity such as a move to more traditonal hay-meadow management.
