Photo of the Week

When two species are competing for the same food, especially during inclement or harsh conditions, competition can become aggressive. Short-eared owls Asio flammeus and Common kestrels Falco tinnunculus share feeding habitats and are both daytime hunters searching moors and rough grasslands for prey. In this remarkable photograph a kestrel attempts to steal a small animal, likely a vole, from the talons of the owl.
