Low Fell as its name suggests, is only 423 metres high yet its location commands a spectacular panoramic view from its southern top. This grassy ridge is quieter and less visited than many famous Lakeland summits, yet from its southern top you can look directly down the Buttermere valley across Crummock Water towards Grasmoor, and the western fells. Low Fell itself has recently seen conservation efforts encouraging limited sheep grazing and natural regeneration of native woodland.
John Macfarlane lives in Cumbria, with his wife Rosamund, another keen photographer. They are both patrons of Friends of the Lake District. His interests in photography include wildlife, travel, landscape, and subscape photography in the mountain becks, pots and falls of the Lake District and Scotland. He enjoys using images and video for visual story telling and lecturing.
