The Orange-tip butterfly Anthocharis cardamines is found among hedgerows and damp meadows throughout England, Wales and Ireland, but further north and especially in Scotland, only found locally. While at rest, this butterfly is well camouflaged by the green patterns on its underwings. Only in flight are the orange wing tips visible. They are one of the earliest butterflies to appear which did not overwinter as adults, and as such feed on nectar from early-season flowers, especially Lady’s Smock or Cuckoo flower Cardamine pratensis.
Richard started photographing landscapes as a hobby in 2012. With
a keen interest in weather phenomena as part of his compositions,
Richard spent most of that time capturing Dartmoor in Devon then
moving to Stirling in Scotland where he now enjoys visiting what
Scotland has to offer from the peaks to the coastline, highlands and
islands.
