Glen Affric is home to some of the largest remaining fragments of original Caledonian forest in Scotland. These ancient woodlands and forests consist predominantly of Scot’s pine, but also includes broadleaved species such as birch, rowan, aspen, willows and alder. The forest floor hosts many plant species typically found in Scotland’s pinewoods like lesser twayblade, twinflower, and wintergreen. Many nationally rare or scarce species of lichens, mosses and epiphytes grow on and amongst the trees of Glen Affric.
