Although Beverley Brook in south-west London may seem a small and insignificant stream, it is part of a much greater whole. The brook flows briefly along the edge of Barnes Common and Barnes Green and has a fascinating social and ecological history comprising of various habitats. In Barnes Common a collaborative conservation working group has adopted a catchment-based, whole-ecosystem approach. This includes the management of invasive non-natives such as Himalayan Balsam, as well as encouraging native species including fish, eels and water voles.
