The rocky shoreline of Hushinish on the remote west coast of Harris, Scotland. The name Hushinish in Gaelic means ‘house headland’. This area contains some of the most ancient rocks exposed in Europe, and once formed part of an extensive Precambrian North Atlantic series, along with similar rocks in Greenland and eastern Canada. The area is composed mainly of quartz feldspars with banded gneiss and granite.
