The view from this cottage on the An Aird Peninsula in the north west highlands of Wester Ross represents some of the most dramatic mountain and coastal scenery in Britain. Contrasting ancient woodlands surround both Loch Sheildaig and Loch Torridon. Here upland birchwoods are layered with mosses, liverworts and lichens. Beyond, lie the remnants of Caledonian pinewood whose existence dates back to the end of the last Ice Age around 10,000 years ago, havens for vulnerable native species including red squirrels, otters, and golden eagles.
Barbara took up hill walking in her late twenties and capturing scenery on film seemed a natural progression so that pretty soon she was getting work published. Self taught, and working alone, Barbara seeks fleeting light and wild weather in her work.
