Beinn Dearg 914m is one of the most prominent mountains that encircle Abhainn Coire Mhic Nobuil in the Torridon Group of mountains in Northwest Scotland. Far beyond, the mighty peak of Lliathach and rising above the haze is its highest point Spidean a Choire Leith 1055m. The red and pink hue of these Torridonian rocks formed in Precambrian times, are estimated to be 1.2 billion years old. These sandstones were deposited in an ancient terrestrial environment of river deltas, lakes, and coastal plains, during a time when Scotland was located closer to the equator and experienced a warm and arid climate.
I’m passionate about exploring and trying to make images in wild places, especially the North West Highlands. My main advice for landscape photography is to explore with an open mind; spend time in the landscape to get a feel for it, and let the surroundings inspire you. Doing this will present memories that will last you a lifetime, and perhaps unique opportunities to make images.
