The Glistening Ink Cap or Mica Cap Coprinus micaceus is a small fungus growing up to 5cm high on broad-leaved stumps, buried wood, logs and wood chippings. It forms clumps of bell-shaped caps when young, which flatten out as they mature. Each cap is covered with tiny reflective particles giving it a glistening or mica-like appearance, hence its name. During moist conditions and being a self-ingesting species, this fungus will only last a few hours before disintegrating into a black inky slime.
