The Ythan Estuary at Forvie on the Aberdeenshire coast is a rich haven for resident and migrant bird life. The 1000 hectares of dune and seashore system here supports breeding colonies of four species of terns and a wealth of wildfowl and waders. Osprey Pandion haliaetus frequent the estuary on regular fishing expeditions and on occasions disturb the responsive nesting terns who work hard to deter the intruder.
Ron took up wildlife photography when he retired from Scottish Natural Heritage in 2015. He uses his knowledge and fieldcraft to photograph birds at close quarters. His favourite group of birds to photograph are waders, mostly on the Ythan estuary where he lives.
