The Merveille du Jour moth Dichonia/Griposia aprilina translates from French as ‘Marvel of the Day’. It frequents broadleaved woods, parks and gardens throughout Britain. In Spring the larvae feed on oak flowers and later the leaves, resting in hollows or crevices during the day. The moths fly during September and October alighting on lichen-covered oak trunks. Their wings are made up of tiny scales creating remarkable camouflage against predators.
