From the River Nethy to the top of Ben Macdui, Abernethy National Nature Reserve is one of the largest and most inspiring remnants of Caledonian pinewood, moorland, wetlands and mountains in Scotland. The reserve is home to a host of specialist pinewood and upland plants and animals. Managing the woodland includes removal of non-native trees and managing herbivores to keep browsing to a level where saplings, shrubs and flowers can establish.
