Elgol or Ealaghol is a village on the wild shores of Loch Scavaig at the end of Strathaird Peninsular, across the loch from the Black Cuillin Mountains. According to tradition, the name Elgol derives from a battle fought with five ships by Aella, a follower of Vortigern, against the Picts and Scots, hence Aella-gol. This part of Skye is one of three conjoining estates Strathaird, Torrin and Sconser, in the ownership of the John Muir Trust.
