The Brown hare Lepus europaeus lives in grassland habitats preferring a mosaic of farmland, woodland margins and hedgerows. Brown hares shelter in shallow depressions on the ground lined with grass, called ‘forms’ where the leverets are born. During this time the adults spend most of the day on or around the form only moving into the open to feed at night on young grass and cereal shoots.
