Beech trees Fagus sylvatica in resplendent spring green, are amongst the mixed deciduous and pine woodlands that line the River Inver as it flows from Loch Assynt 6 miles to the sea at Lochinver. Cool and damp as the climate is here, the woodlands are lush and green and rich in mosses, lichens and fungi. The fierce winds here have shaped the trees into unique twisted shapes but only cover 3% of the Assynt wilderness of Sutherland.
Living in Assynt, Chris Puddephatt is primarily a landscape
photographer, but also undertakes commissions and enjoys
environmental portraiture. He’s particularly interested in the narrative
of journey, whether that’s one of time or miles. “But that journey, is
not a road-trip; it is far more local, and usually includes walking boots
and a coat.
