Photo of the Week

Honey Fungus Armillaria mellea is a common invasive parasitic fungi that attacks both broad-leaved and coniferous trees. By the time the fruiting body is visible, the mycelial threads within the tree’s tissues will have already caused it damage. In this photograph the fungus is growing on a mature Ash tree Fraxinus excelsior, which itself may already be weakened by the widespread disease, Ash Dieback Hymenoscyphus fraxineus.
