Photo of the Week

The European Beaver Castor fiber was originally hunted to extinction in the UK around 500 years ago. Their dams of branches restrict water flow and create ponds of still, deep water, which reduces the danger of flooding. They transform their local environment by creating new wetland habitats that allow hundreds of other species to return and flourish. Reintroduction schemes in Knapdale, Scotland and in the river Otter, Devon are shown so far to be successful.
