The Shore crab Carcinus maenas is the most common crab encountered on our shores. Normally a green-ish colour, shore crabs are easily found in rockpools, and amongst seaweed covered boulders at low tide. Females carry the fertilised eggs in an orange mass on the underside of their bodies to protect them from predators.
