Wild garlic, Bear leek or Ramsons Allium ursinum is a bulbous perennial with a distinctive pungent garlic smell that pervades moist woodlands throughout Britain. Flowering in early spring, it is an important early bloom for the bees and other insects which pollinate them. This ancient woodland indicator has traditionally been used in medicine, the bulb being one of the key ingredients in tonics for rheumatic problems and high cholesterol.
