The East Lyn River rises in the hills of Exmoor and flows north-west through gorges and valleys to reach the coast at Lynmouth. After days of torrential rain in 1952, along with its sister river the West Lyn, a catastrophic volume of water swept into Lynmouth, flooding and devastating the village with great loss of life.
