Lathkill Dale National Nature Reserve in the Derbyshire Peak District is a deep wooded valley formed by the erosive action of post glacial rivers 15,000 years ago. The River Lathkill is unusual since it is the only river in Britain who’s entire flow is contained within limestone geology. Every year as the water table lowers in summer months, the water level sinks through the limestone below the bed of the stream and disappears. Several springs along its three mile length remain permanent throughout the year ensuring a balanced habitat for the myriad of aquatic species of plants, birds, animals and fish.

Many of my pictures involve photographing moving subjects smaller than a grain of rice. Nature provides me with an endless array of fascinating subjects.”
