Hidden by dunes from landward Holywell Bay overlooks the twin islets called Carter’s or Gull Rocks on the north Cornish coast. Its name is derived from a cave at the northern end of the beach where over millions of years water seeping through the slate rock high in the cave, has created stalactite formations and a natural shrine for pilgrimage over centuries. It is only accessible at very low tides.
